[SCG] newsletter

Bill,
I am willing to devote some of my precious personal time (I have already
donated a significant amount of money). However, I do not own a server and
must rely upon others (CORSA). I have tried to assist in setting up the new
database, but I do not have a Unix/Linux server at my disposal. Harry asked
the board for a consultant to assist him in setting up the database for
multiple applications (SCG being just one of them). Unfortunately, I have
been told that CORSA has "NO POLITICAL WILL" in doing this.
Since our last email conversation with Harry (who is swamped with other
priorities from CORSA), I was away on vacation for 2 weeks and had to get
caught up personally and professionally. As I stated then, I can use one of
my desktop PCs to install a free version of Linux and 2 MySQL databases,
then I can instruct CORSA on how to set their server up to support multiple
databases.
In layman's terms for everyone, I need the engine (database) before I can
build the frame and suspension (code). If anyone else is a MySQL Unix guru
and can assist, please speak up now or contact Harry. Otherwise, I ask
everyone to be patient while I try to figure out how to set it up and work
with CORSA (not to mention save them consultant money) on how to do it.
Unless you are a programmer, you have NO IDEA what is involved in setting up
an entire system to document information and prepare it for publication. It
does NOT happen overnight, especially when people work full-time, have
families, and other obligations. If CORSA had the foundation in place for
Harry and others (including us), then we would already have a foundation in
place and be well on our way to producing the end document.
Now, if no one wants to proceed, please speak NOW and I will not proceed
with backing up my OLD desktop PC, reformatting the drive, installing Linux,
installing MySQL, etc. Although I am willing to dedicate some of my time to
my project, I certainly do NOT want to waste it.
As for the meeting minutes, I believe that Mark documented the meeting.
Marissa

It's rather hard to write a newsletter when nobody gives me any material.
I have asked the membership for articles but have received nothing this
year. I was not able to attend the annual SCG meeting this year and so I
asked for somebody who attended to take and send me minutes, but I never
received them either. I have asked for a report on the status of our new
web site and database development and all I ever here is "no progress yet"
At this point I think it is safe to say that the Stock Corvair Group is at a
crossroads. Either the members step up and become active, and this includes
the officers and committee members getting their reports and project done,
or we need to conclude that this is not really working.

Is the newsletter still being published? I have not received a newsletter
this year.
Thanks,
