I remain confused as to the object's function. If I understand correctly,
I am lead to believe that it is used to make an imprint on the positive
battery terminal/post but the seller of the first one listed dimensions for
it
(3 1/4" w.) that, it seems to me, would far exceed the size of a battery
post and, besides, doesn't the positive battery post come from the factory
with a plus sign (+) imprinted on it? Granted, I will concede that I often
need things spelled out for me to grasp them sufficiently....

Another one just popped up, this time for calendar year 1961. eBay item

The stamp is for the top of the Positive battery post. Not only did it
give
a positive way of identifying when a battery was sold, it also gave a
tactile identification to the positive terminal for jump starting in poor
light.
