I would say that during the time period, they would have only been available at the factory.  But post production that inventory would be sold off, (possibly to dealerships at that time)  the parts supplier would also have existing inventory to get out to the public.  Pretty easy to see how they could be "found" at swap meets and in collectors stashes.
