[SCG] [Corsabod] Annual Stock Corvair Event - needs to become a real event

I do not want to get into a great debate on this subject. My suggestion was
to plan a SCG event independent of the CORSA convention as I clearly stated.
So BOD approval as far as it being part of the convention would not be
necessary, just the boards blessing of a SCG event like CORSA does for so
many other non convention events.

I will state my argument once and I really do not have the time to get into
a lengthy online debate. As I see the problem with CORSA is just too many
different interests groups all trying to operate under one umbrella. The
majority of CORSA members are not interested in retaining stock vehicles.
The display class is many times larger than the concourse class for that
reason. Then add the V8 gang and the racers and you quickly see why the SCG
seem to be feeling insignificant. The AACA is founded on preserving
automotive history and factory specification vehicles. The HPOF, Historic
Preservation of Original Features class was established for the sole purpose
of preserving factory original vehicles and receives the appropriate status
because of the mission of the AACA. Most of the Corvairs that I see
attending a CORSA event would not be allowed at an AACA event. The Corvette
people went thru the same deal a few years back and broke into separate
organization because of it. Lets face it, the interests of someone who owns
the latest and greatest Corvette model, the racer who has a vintage but very
modified Corvette, and the concourse and factory stock preserver all have
very different personalities and philosophies. Trying to get all to play
together nice it a challenging task. While I in no way want to suggest we
dissolve CORSA which is very important to the main stream Corvair
enthusiast, I just suggest that the SCG may be better holding an event
outside the shadow of the convention where the group can be with its own
kind.

Thanks and I rest my case, Chuck Facklam

Chuck,
Work with the Stock people and come up with a proposal. It really is that
simple. It will take foot work and coordination with the (Concours chair?).
If the proposal is viable and can be shown to work within the structure of
the convention I don't see why it can't be incorporated somehow. Of course
the usual BoD vote will have to happen and I am only one on the BoD but the
Prez generally does not vote.

This is the reason why despite being a CORSA member for over 30 years
and
chairman of the 2006 National Convention, I no longer take part in
CORSA
events. I have become a very engaged member of the AACA (Chaired the
Eastern
National AACA Convention last year!) because it does recognize
the
importance of all original vehicles. I own a 20,000 mile early
production
all original 500 1960 coupe which proudly displays a AACA HPOF
Original
badge. I have never bothered to bring it to a CORSA convention for
this
reason. I have proudly displayed it at 5 AACA National events because
there
the vehicles have their own class and are appropriately displayed
and
recognized.
So enough of my ranting, I will make even a more bold
suggestion. I
suggest we have a Stock Corvair Group event independent of the
CORSA
convention. I will be happy to lead in its arrangements. If people
are
serious I think we should start a discussion as to when and where.

I would support Bill's proposal to have a new Annual
Stock Corvair Event.
I realize that this is a small number of Corvair owners,
but there has
long been a need for this unique recognition. The Stock Corvair
Group has
laid the groundwork for this important preservation and recognition
of
Corvair
history.
