Meeting Minutes 1/23/04
Intern President Norm Wright called meeting to order at 10:40am
Secretary's report given by intern Secretary Sarah Jones
Treasurer's Report: given by intern Treasurer Tony Fiore. Presently we have
17 paid members. Balance on hand is $113.63.
Gene Barr gave a report about our upcoming event March 27 - 28 at the Lake
County Technical Center. The cost of the facility is $200 per day. Trailer
parking will be allowed to stay over Saturday night. We have access to the
property Friday evening, but only until 5:00pm. Facility has pylons for us to use,
however we're not sure if fire extinguishers are available.
Three hotels available in the area:
Inn on the Green - $69 per night if you mention Corvair (lots of room for
trailers we suggest using this as our "host" property)
Microtel: $69 single / $89 double
Budget Inn $75
Timing: Gene stated in the past he had spoken with the Martin Group and was
under the impression they would time it for free as long as their folks who
were timing could run the event. Since this is a 2day event, a motion was made
and passed that we would provide overnight accommodations for the Martin
people if they so desired. Ed also said he had contacts with SCCA group and Martin
from when the Daytona Convention was held. Ed said he would make contacts
and let us know who will time.
The issue of purchasing timing equipment came up, as we knew it eventually
would. Central Florida Corvairs has already agreed to purchase the equipment
and provided that SECC pay the club back. Tony Fiore said that Gulf Coast
Corvairs was also willing to donate to the fund.
A motion was made and passed that funding to purchase start up equipment to
be provided by CFC and GCCC and any other clubs who wish to contribute as well.
Once SECC becomes more financially stable, SECC will pay back the clubs who
initially contributed to the purchase.
Newsletter for SECC will be officially called: Southern Cross
Sarah will start working on a logo.
Norm & Ed made up our initial by-laws and they were read and changes were
made. Ed will make the corrections and then forward then to Sarah to send out to
the paid members as well as prospective members for review. Once they are
reviewed Sarah will submit them to CORSA so the CORSA board can approve our
application to become a Special Interest Group.
MARCH EVENT:
It was decided to cap the registrations at no more then 75 entries per day.
After much talk about having a Corvair only day, it was decided it would be in
our best interest to invite certain car clubs to participate. Once we get
more established we can have a Corvair only day, but for now we figured letting
"water pumpers" participate will only help our treasury. The following clubs
will be invited to attend: Aplfa, Miata, VW, MG, Triumph.
Sarah will order the Certificate of Insurance and CFC will pay for it, to be
reimbursed by SECC.
Pricing the event:
1 Day 2 Days
Members of SECC $20 $35
Non Members SECC $25 $45
Children under 17- SECC Members only $10 $15
Proposed Schedule of Events:

Many enjoyed the Novice School in Ft Myers. It was suggested we try it
again, but for a shorter time length. Ed thought Titus Stewart would be an
excellent person to teach the school. Titus is not currently a member of SECC, but
feels certain he will join. Ed will contact Titus and ask him if he is willing
to teach this 1 hour class.
There are three sets of timed runs. It's our intention to change the course
after each set of timed runs. Some of the timed runs will incorporate a
portion of the road course and the parking lot. The last set of timed runs on
Sunday will incorporate the entire road course and the parking lot.
Classification will be done only for Corvairs. Water pumpers can be
classified within their own clubs if they so chose.
Awards will be given to the Top Three in each Corvair Class and 1 - 3 third
in 4, 6, 8 cylinder cars as a Water Pumper Class.
Meeting adorned at 1:15pm
