hey jim, thanks for the v-8 vair post. your v8 vair should be an awesome hot rod when your done. i have a 66 v-8 vair with a 400 hp 402 ft lbs torque summit racing motor. i am using a stock corvair transaxel with 3:27 ring and pinnion and 4 spider posi diff. i have allready blew one trans, (blew the front main bearing) and i replaced that trans with a setup from chris wills in san francisco, but i would like to get more feed back on the whole setup that you are using the 930 porsche. my v8 vair is a crown setup so if i were to go with the 930 porsche transaxel i would have to relocate the engine further aft in the car. my question is how far aft would i have to move it? and how do you mount the 930 transaxel? any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks, paul. paulstrohl at yahoo.com

I asked the same question and there is no answer. Specifically, there are a lot of opinions on either side. My research showed no reason to belive there was anything in the Corvair transaxle that made it better suited to side loads than the 930 and common sense would suggest the bulk of the load is carried by the lower control arm anyway. In the end, I went with the stock set-up. You can see my project at the following link. My car is due back from paint in the next few weeks and i will be installing the transaxle then. I'll update the site to reflect what I do.
