That sure looks like some homemade pos....  the joint looks made from a 
socket set...bad..way to much slop...

If you cannot make this, or something inspired by KM.....think about buying a 
cable shifter.....available prebuilt at most sand buggy shops....see Hot VW's 
 Magazine..
