Bob Asks: (And Seth gives his opinion)

Do the toe-control rods keep the trailing arms from pivoting
horizontally about the front bushings?

(The function of those toe-control rods are to change the rear toe-in during suspension travel. And to retain the factory
toe-setting under load Depending on the location of the inner link pivot point, during downward movement
at the rear of the trailing arm, (like on the inside arm during a turn), the front of the arm is pushed outward,
into the turn. And the outside armsince it is moving upward, is pulled inward, again into the turn.
Chevy used two different inside pivot brackets during the late model's life.

Do the spherical joints keep the trailing arms from pivoting
horizontally about the front bushings?

(replacement of the rubber bushing with a Spherical bearing allows the arm to pivot in any direction around that fixed
front point.)

Would a solid metal bushing do the same or better job (other than wear
and friction)?
(A solid bushing - defined as allowing pivoting in only one plane, doesn't work well in this application because the arm
has to relocate in more than one plane - That is why it is a Semi-trailling arm design.)

How many people here have non-Corvair rear suspensions? That is without
lower control arms attached to the differential brackets.
(It is quite easy to replace the front bushing with a spherical bearing. Of course, two differing things result. First,
no toe change under cornering - really no dynamic change - toe can easily vary based on suspension load. The front pivot
point remains stationary vs. being pushed and pulled sidways as stock. Two, no compliance - a hard ride, since each little
load is immediately transferred to the body.)

Are people willing to send pictures of their rear suspensions to be
placed on a web page for others to peruse?
