[V8Vairs] Flywheel - Aluminum or Steel?

My opinion, and it is just that. An aluminum flywheel is useful only when you are trying to wring Every last little bit of power out of your engine that you can.

Extra flywheel mass makes cars idle better. Also it acts as sort of a "shock absorber" between the engine and transmission, evening out power delivery. Since the transaxle is the weak point of the Crown conversion, why introduce any more stress than necessary.

Again, it is my OPINION that the aluminum flywheel would add more stress to the corvair transaxle.

Given the fragility of the ring and pinion, what are the pros and cons of each? I have a 3.55 non-psi 4 spider differential and a relatively low torque 283 Chevy with a stock GM flywheel. I'm not planning to make a change, but I am curious about what others may have to say.

  Thanks in advance,
