[V8Vairs] I wiped a cam lobe. Now what?

?? I would suspect that as long as that car has sat that it was an oiling problem and you didn't treat it like a new cam on start up. The problem was probably already started the last time you drove the car. With roller lifters you probably can leave the spring rates alone but I know you aren't going to abuse the engine to much so you could go with what the cam and roller lifter manufacturer suggest. The springs need to be tall enough to accommodate the lift of the cam and not bind.

?? As far as block prep goes the damage has already been done. More than likely the filter has caught most of the metal. I would think draining the oil with new filter, fill with fresh dino oil run for a few and change the filter and oil again, looking for the amount of metal in the oil as you drain it. If there is still a fair amount of metal another filter and oil change are due and this time with an oil flush of some kind. That will take some of the surface tension from the oil and any metal stuck to the block will be more apt to come out in the oil drain.

?? Next time use AMSOIL! Put the order in now and you will have the oil by the time you are ready. Go to Online Store? http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/default.aspx? and when they ask for refering dealer use 503903. or you can call 1-800-956-5695.?? With the roller lifers you can now use the 0W-30 or the 10W-30. You don't have to worry about the zinc anymore.

Aluminum Chevy V-8, mechanical lifters and too much spring pressure.? Am
replacing with hydraulic roller lifters and more normal spring rates.? Any
suggestions for block prep to get rid of lingering metal?? I will pull a couple
of rod and main bearings to look for problems. Multiple oil filter changes after
it runs?

This happened using Mobil-1.? It has been suggested that it is too slippery to
rotate the lifters. Has anybody else heard that?

All thoughts are appreciated,

Thanks in advance,

Paul ?
