After more thought, I think I'll stick with the 3:55 even if the gears are too short.  A 3:08 would make sense if I were willing to put in an engine cover and actually use it as a car.  Given its primary use of going to and from car shows, it really doesn't have to be practical.  (If the car shows have a category for "least practical" it's a contender.)
