[V8Vairs] Article

I assure you I have told Frank many times.  He sort of shrugs it off.  I saw him yesterday.  He has a neat program to evaluate braking system combinations.  I plan to upgrade the Corvair's brakes.

It's a long story but my aluminum 283 short block is going on eBay with a high reserve to find out what its value is, in an effort to get it to the GM Heritage Museum for 10% less than the high bid.  If there isn't any interest by anybody, it will stay where it is.  The director of the GM museum offered a new Corvette crate motor for it (a neat piece but I really don't have a use for it)  which is the same offer I got from the Corvette museum.  Neither museum has much money to purchase new items, particularly these days. The short block belongs in a museum, IMHO, not in private hands.

My plan, if I can get reasonable money for what I have, is to install an all aluminum SB Chevy bow tie engine.  Displacement will be 302, 350, or possibly but not likely, a 383.  Which would you choose?  The final drive ratio will go from the current 3.55 to 3.27.

If I had to do it all over again, I think I'd buy one of Archibold's transaxles and put all of my efforts into building a big HP engine.

Paul

P. S.  Your car was one of the cars I had in mind when I said there were others more deserving of the attention.

Paul, watched both vids several times. Love that sound! Makes me a bit
nostalgic for my old V8 Vair. Nothing like that sound and fury when you mash
the loud pedal.
Your car is deserving of all the attention and I thank you for getting it
finished.
Now, go thank Frank again for getting you hooked.

Rick

Today I got my first look at the December issue of "Automobile" magazine. On
the cover it says, "V-8 Corvair: Riding with the devil." The article is on
pages 66 and 67.

Earlier today I took the car out and did some 0 - 80 runs with the HD camera
positioned to look over the top of the engine while accelerating. A friend
is going to incorporate them along with some 0 - 130 runs, taken over Don
Sherman's shoulder, into the existing youtube video.

All of this attention is new to this old car guy and I know there are others
that are more deserving.

Paul
