NJ only has an emission test requirement.
Several years ago, to help balance our out of control budget,
the Governor, in his infinite wisdom, decided to drop the safety
inspection.
Bald tires and really loose ball joints don't matter!
We don't need working brakes or lights! I guess the Governor doesn't care about safety.

He only kept the emissions test requirements because the Federal Gov't
gave him money for it.
The emission test is not to bad for old cars (bad smokers not allowed)
and one can avoid it completely by registering car 25 years and older as "Classic" vehicles.
The "Classic" vehicles have to look, from the outside, like they did when they were new.
I believe two pictures of the outside are required so for a V8 car some
tasteful positioning of the car for photos may be required.
