..this is usually accepted;; assuming you're going to KEEP the car, if it now has current 'on the road' paperwork in GA, it would only have to pass another state's "inspection" requirements (which can vary) to be legal in that state to operate,, NY DMV would issue a "10 day" inspection sticker to allow you time to get it inspected ..Ownership is yours and would not change in this case, so your current 'registration', or proof of ownership (in GA) plus simply obtaining insurance (in NJ) and filling out the 'registration' form should be all you'd have to do..Going across borders *may be easier* if the car going to Canada was bought and titled/registered in the US first (may require residence 'change'), THEN brought to Canada and just paying import duty fee..
