Boy, what a timely thread! I just got back the 140 cylinder heads I sent
off to Larry Claypool's shop for repair. They did a superb job! New deep
valve seats, guides, exhaust valves, seals, etc. They even repaired a
broken fin so well that you can hardly tell where it was. Now as soon as I
get a warm day off work we will pull both heads on Geoff's car and replace
the heads with these babies! I expect to find a partially dropped seat on
#2 - no compression. Yes, I did check the rocker arm, valves, and pushrod
first. No, I did not do a leakdown test -- what's the point? Still need to
pull the head even if it does turn out to be a head gasket, piston or ring
problem.

Anyway, please take a look at the work Larry did for me. Pictures at the
following site:

p.s. If you wonder where the broken fin was, look closely at the upper left
corner of the top head in picture #1 -- viewed in high magnification you can
barely make out that the grain of the metal runs diagonally - that is the
area of the broken fin. You would never know it if I hadn't told you.
