Billy, Billy,

Please don't use RTV. You can make a gasket out of cardboard as you
suggest. Matter of fact, in many cases, this being one of them, the gaskets
sold new today are much thinner and "harder" or stiffer than the gaskets
sold yesterday. I have found the rear housing and the Delcotron
adaptor/mount are not flat. The new gaskets don't do much to seal this area
properly. Cereal box cardboard is thicker and softer which ought to be
better than current gaskets.

I strongly suggest you do not use regular RTV, although some do.
There are some RTVs that are modern products and applied to a clean surface,
will often do the gasket-job. In this particular area, the width of the
sealing surfaces are rather thin, the clamping force is insufficient for
higher oil pressures, and I suspect, too narrow a surface area for proper
sealing at higher oil pressures. At stock oil pressure levels, a modern RTV
might be suitable.

I suggest folks really make sure what they are doing when they add
or use RTV. The stuff flakes everywhere on the inside of surfaces, and
contaminates the oil.

3M Weatherstrip adhesive makes a good gasket cement using a gasket
plus the adhesive to a clean dry surface = works to 80 psi. at the rear
housing.

The best product-not cheap-is The RIGHT STUFF by Permatex. There
are other 'similar' tubes at your FLAPS. They are no good compared to this
stuff-used with a gasket.

One drawback of the adhesive and Right Stuff products-you need three
men and a kid to get the parts apart.

All IMHO

You can make your own gasket out of cereal box cardboard and it will work
just as well as anything the vendors sell. Another alternative is to just
use Blue RTV and let it set up a bit before applying the part .
