Roger,
    That's quite true.  Of course, doing so will overload the points so they 
have to be replaced much more frequently.  But your point is well taken.  
However, that's probably the ONLY place on the engine that the stock system 
DELIBERATELY reduces the voltage reaching the item in order to make it last longer.
