So how does one remove the broken remnants which
rattle around whenever I lift the hood? Some PO
removed the retainers by simply yanking them and
breaking the tips off inside. ...ggrrr...

BTW, I evaded the kickpanel grill retention problem by
slightly filing the panel slots. Problem solved but
still a mystery.
