The rattling noise you hear ISN'T broken retainer studs, but dried sealant
used to bond the two pieces of sheet metal of the engine lid together. It
squishes out at assembly time, forming these globs that harden and break off
in time. Not a problem, but sure sounds embarrasing when you open the lid.
