I've used a cheap (Nothern) parts washer with Stoddard solvent
(petroleum-based) for years with no problems.  I haven't taken the pump
apart, but I can't imagine it's anything except plastic.  Most plastics are
okay with petroleum-based solvents (lot's of plastic in modern fuel
systems).  I'd expect my pump to give up based on usage, not the use of
Stoddard.  Replacement pumps are cheap.
