Thanks for the information on using a copper washer.

I drove all over town yesterday looking for a true copper crush washer but 
had little luck.  Everyone tried to sell me a solid flat washer.

Finally, some guy at an oil change place gave me a crush washer that looks 
slightly larger than what I need.  It might work.
