Had a great Tidewater Corvair Club day today - several of us drove out to
member Bill Rankin's place in rural Suffolk and got two ancient Corvair
relecs running again. One was a rusted hulk of a '63 Coupe that had been
donated to the club recently, and the other was Bill Rankin's '64 Coupe that
also had not been run in years. I think we ended up doing impromtoo
rebuilds on all four carburetors and points replacements on both
distributors. Neither car had brakes, but that didn't prevent us from
driving them around the "back 40". Hey, whaddya know, you really can stop a
Powerglide by shoving it from drive into reverse. It was kind of hard to
get used to having my left heel fall through the floor every time I pressed
on the gas pedal, though!

Oh yeah, some of us drove our Corvairs there. Alice was sprung from her
trailer home ("Wonderland") and gave me an enjoyable round trip of 50 miles
or so on her bias belt tires. I think Alice and Spike were running about
80-85 mph on the way home - passing all the other cars on the road. Dang,
someday I'm gonna get myself in trouble driving that Corvair!!
