I KNEW somebody would bring up the safety spec!! Safety specs are limits set
for the average Joe who doesn't fool with a car. Somewhere a spec should be
set for replacement, but knowing most 'average' drivers, they'll put off
replacing brake shoes until they hear the scraping of the shoes on the drum.
As long as there's meat on the shoe down to the rivets (or shoe, if bonded),
you're good to go.Or stop.
That said, there is a factor, that the thinner the friction material gets,
the greater the potential of the material breaking up. Your mileage may
vary.
