<VV> Porsche question (OT)

look for rust in the lower doors, trunk bottom, and behind the headlights
and/or battery trays (does this car have two batteries 1 each behind each
headlight or been converted to a single battery?) Check out the heater
boxes as well as the exhaust.

The 911E has air suspension so be aware of a car sitting low or riding rough
or bouncy. It should also have MFI, although a proper carb conversion while
not being original might be a plus for a driven car.

Door panels fall apart, dashes crack and warp, targas Always leak so look
for additional water/rust damage on the floors and the dash.

Pay someone knowledgeable to properly check out the mechanics. A 2.2L
Porsche long block will probably cost 2-3X what a Corvair does. Most argue
that you always replace the pistons and cylinders during a rebuild which can
add to the costs. There is a chain tensioner upgrade which while not 100%
necessary, should be done if you get into that area. I hope it is a 5
speed.

IMO whale tales, flared fenders, aftermarket seats, or other obvious visual
modifications severely hurt the value and fun of this vintage Porsche. I
owned a 1970 911T sunroof coupe for 8 years and it shared daily driving
duties with my 1966 Corsa 140 convertible. My wife and I both autocross
school'd the Porsche, it was FUN. The sunroof Porsche did leak less than
the Corsa convertible.....

My 911 had doors installed from a 1980 911 Targa. I retained the original
chrome window frames and door handles. The upgrade got me galvanized doors,
power windows, updated door panels, and right and left side (and usable)
outside mirrors. 90% of the folks who saw the car had no idea of the
upgrade.

I still have the 1966 Corsa convertible, I often wish I had not sold the
Porsche.
