<VV> 4sp lube

Mr Hand if you are listening, please contact me off list. Need to know
what to order and where to send the money.

It releases about midway threw the travel. Always when its running. If
I practice shifting, it seems to work ok. Its not really bad, but I find
if you work on it when its a little problem, it may not become one.

When it doesn't shift it feels like its physically blocked, if I pump the
peddle and try again it will go in.

The previous owner told me he lost a starter snout, never did figure out
where it went. Could it be bouncing around in their. What do I have to
take off to get at where it may have fallen.

Can not drive it today. Tweeked a thumb on the shifting hand.

I get my Amsoil stuff through Ken Hand. I don't recall specifially which
lube; I think it's the "normal" 80 weight gear lube. Check with him for
sure.

Where does the clutch release? Near the floor or near the end of travel?

When it's hard going into gear, is the engine always running? Is it ever
difficult getting into gear with the engine off?

If I try to put it in gear sometimes it goes in gear easy, othertimes I
feel like I am dry humping her hip. No real grinding, because its just
not getting in gear. When its not playing nice, it feels very
'mechanical'. I did have to fix the cable like in the tech guides with a
cable clamp. But that was a couple years ago.

Thanks to all.

1st and second are the most difficult, 3 and 4 are the easiest.

Their is no topside place to fill/check fluids.

Which lube, as according to the AMSOIL website their are no dealers in
RI. I have to order it.

Might as well get the lubes for the other vairs. Its been 2 years since I
put gear oil in the PG'S.

Any easier way then pumping it in. Had a hand pump and 95w cold pumps
like mud.

Gearbox and diff share fluid... though there is a lube opening on the
gearbox as well. Use a quality oil like Amsoil.

But your difficulty getting into gear may likely not be oil-related.
Could be worn synchros, worn or misadjusted clutch, out-of-adjustment
shift linkage, sticking shift linkage, etc... but a '65 box is unlikely
to have bad synchros... best shifting of any Corvair gearbox.

Tell us more about the specific behavior.
