Shouldn't interior paint be enamel so it doesn't have to be wet
sanded and buffed out? Just curious.

Most interior paint is not high gloss, but flat to semi gloss. Lacquer works just fine for these applications, and requires no sanding or buffing when applied correctly. I.e. use the correct temperature thinner and wet coats.
