Yeah, Tony, I can relate...

Having done some pretty substantial bodywork in the past, I thought, "hey, lets do a Corvair!"

Well, almost 1 year has gone by, Ive gone through at least three spools of wire, a couple tanks of gas, more sheet metal that I thought possible, and more than one six pack in order to get where I am.

I am pleased to report though that my 66 'vert came off of the rotisserie this weekend and sits on its own 4 wheels, brand new shiny torq thrusts outboard of disk brakes!!!

I just need to get my windshield patch panels from JR and Jim L and I'll be good to go, body-wise. I am happy to say that in replacing the bottoms of both rear quarters, all four wheel well lips, lower rockers on both sides from fenderwell to fenderwell, both doglegs, full floor, trunk bottom, and both lower front fenders that I have less than one quart of duraglass in this car. All in all, I think thats pretty good....

This stupid car started as "aw, we can get that done in a month or so..." Well, it didnt quite turn out that way...

After starting with 40 grit on the ole' Mutabo, I started finding bondo over screen, aluminum foil, you name it... One thing led to another, a buddy bucked up his rotisserie and his shop, and there ya have it... All I can say is NEVER AGAIN will I go into a Corvair project this blind or optimistic.

I feel more satisfaction, thus far, with what we have done to this car than any other I have been involved with; if only because of the level of detail and painstaking recreation that was undertaken.

We're not going to make it to Lexington this year with the car, but next year, wherever the convention is, we'll be there... in the 66 vert.

I thought about quitting a bunch of times and sending this thing to the shredder. It was the guys participating in this forum that provided the wisdom and courage to not give up. Thanks.

BTW, this isnt going to be a TQ or senior entry, but rather one hell of a fun hotrod that actually gets driven -- the way it ought to be!! <<VBG>>
