There are several thermocouple based temp gauges that will work on the
Corvair. If you are talking about using an off-the-shelf thermocouple to drive the
stock gauge, that won't work because the stock gauge uses a thermistor, not a
thermocouple. A thermocouple sends a voltage out two wires which changes under
temp change. The thermistor changes resistance to ground under temp change.
There are new digital read-out head temp gauges on the market which might be
just the thing for us. Depending on the real accuracy of the gauge, it would be
nice to see the temp read-out in exact degrees, not just a moving lever on a
scale with four or five "points". The gauges fit into standard 2 1/16 gauge
packs.- Seth
