In a later post, you said that this car is an early ('63).  The brake
light and turn signal share the same filament in the bulb, with the
function selected by the turn signal switch located under the steering
column.  The turn signal lever only operates a thin cable that runs down
the bottom of the steering column into the switch.  Possibly the cable
broke while the switch was in the left turn position, or the switch was
knocked out of position by someone's foot. Reach down to the switch and
see if it is at one end of it's travel.  If so, move it to the center
position.  Now the brake light should work, and the turn signal will be
off.
