I'll make one generic suggestion:

Do NOT shortcut yourself on oil for a Corvair. The 'Vair engine is rough
on engine oils because it runs so much hotter than liquid cooled engines
and thus is going to stress the oil by thinning it out more, which is one
of the reasons 'Vair engines came standard with oil coolers.

*Always* use the best oil you can. It only costs an extra nickel to go
first class... I use multigrade in winter and a straight weight oil in
summer. Usually, it's 30 wt unless it's in my '60 4-door which generally
gets 40 wt since it has almost 200,000 miles on its original engine which
has never been out of the car. It still holds around 35 lbs of oil
pressure hot.

If you have a 'Vair engine that's solid and tight and reasonably "fresh"
and uses little to no oil between changes, it makes sense to use synthetic
oil.
