Your description doesn't quite match my experience of dropped valve seat.
Step 1: perform a compression test. If your compression is good, you either
don't have a dropped valve seat OR the drop is intermittent (seat returns to
its correct position occasionally).
Very hard to say much else without knowing what year, what engine, even
location can figure into this stuff.

I had a great time in Mesquite. My first event. You can see my pictures at
http://gallery.defiancestudios.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=gathering.

Lots of fun. Lots of great looking Corvairs. Everybody was very friendly.
A great weekend all around.

The only downside is that my corvair started misfiring on the trip home. I
have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Everybody was talking about
dropping valve seats, so I'm paranoid about that. Can anybody tell me what
the symptoms of that would be? Would the car still run? My car runs ok
during idle and low rpm driving. After the car warms up and I get it up
around 2000+ rpm and try to accelerate it starts to misfire.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next event I can make... Hopefully
something close and soon!
