Hi Ian,
How about a good diet program?!?  LOL.  Sorry, I just could not resist.  
I suspect that with the driver's weight on that side, it tends to have more stress on that side's springs.  You could just replace the
springs and see.  I think that the right and left springs are a little different to compensate for driver's side added weight.

I suppose you could try swapping springs from left to right and see if it helped.  Of course, the car would likely be slightly lower than
stock, if that is OK with you.  At least it is an inexpensive approach to try.
