Loose is fine.....approx. 1"  deflection....with engine cold...you should be able to "slip"  the Alt. pulley in the belt...

To change....you swing the shroud belt deflector [ if equipped]  out of the way...then

up behind the distributor.below rigt belt pulley..9/6"  bolt and nut on a stud...loosen them only....push idler pulley forward...

install belt.....pull by HAND only...tighten NUT....then  adjust belt deflector to be within 1/*"  of the belt...tighten BOLT

Align  Shroud deflector [ if equipped]  and tighten....checklk after 100 miles to assure it's not too loose....pull off pulley easily by hand with engine HOT...
