Can anyone offer some suggestions on interpreting the wiring diagrams in the
'65 Shop Manual? I've never had much success in translating from one page to
next.

Well - It is a learned knack. The wire colors are indicated in the lines from
connector to connector. But there are mistakes in the drawings. In the 65
diagram, check out the wiring in the connector between the dash and the under
dash harness. The differences in the Corsa harness are pretty obvious. Check the
Fuel gage circuit all the way from the sender to the gage. It uses a 20 T
wire. Remember that the drawings of the connectors flip left to right when they go
through a connector (admittedly a little confusing) It is the way you would
see the connector if you opened it up and looked at it holding a connector in
each hand. In your left hand the pin on the left side of the connector would
actually plug into the pin on the right side of the connector in your right
hand. GM pretty much used the same color wire as the circuit went through
different connectors from one part of the car to another. For instance, the 20 T wire
(20 gage wire, tan in color) is only used in the fuel circuit. 20 gage Dark
Blue wire (20 DBL) is used in the oil pressure warning light/overheat light
circuit.

In the 65 dash harness, if you were to connect everything a shown, you would
have a few problems. A corsa dash has the clock fed from the main harness. Per
the diagram, that pin feeds the high beam indicator in the 500/Monza dash.
The under dash diagram shows that pin getting 12 volts all the time, along with
the glove box and the under-dash and/or dome lights. Seems right for the
clock, not right for the high beam indicator. I think the 500/monza dash diagram is
wrong, and there may be other goofs as well. - Seth Emerson
