I have read that the '66-7 style condenser is not as efficient as the
earlier style and therefore does not work as well if you convert to R-134a.
Unless you have a secret stash of R-12 or are very rich, you will probably
want to convert to 134a if you have to open the system for any reason.  On
the other hand, rusty Rose is now selling NEW 66-7 style condensers that
have been re-engineered to work well with 134a.

The engine will get just as hot with either style condenser as all the hot
air from the condenser still has to pass through the engine.
