Excellent post by Rick.  I suspect alignment which is critical...

Just wanted to add that using a poly pitman arm bushing makes a huge change in steering feel and that bad/weak shocks will also make the car feel loose at 
speed. If the steering feels loose, you might need a steering box adjustment as well.
