Subject: <VV> Legality Question - NO CORVAIR

Please excuse the off topic question, but I know there is at
least one attorney on the list.

Could I legally take pictures of for instance cars at a car show,
make a screensaver of the pictures, put it onto a CD, and sell
the screensaver CD?

If the cars are in a public place like a car show, it would be OK
to sell pictures of them without the owners' permission wouldn't
it? Thanks for any help.

Dave

I don't beleive you have to be an attorney to figure this one out. Just as
Mike takes pictures of cars at the convention and prints them in the
Communique. You have no reasonable right to expect the image of the car to
belong to you unless you take the picture. The cars are there to display,
no one is stopping anyone from taking pictures so it would be reasonably
assumed it is OK to use the pictures as you see fit.
A reporter may do an article, and sell it to a newspaper or magazine, thus
generating a profit which he does not share with the owner of the vehicle
or sponsor of the event. This does turn into a different story though if
you try taking pictures at a rock concert.........
