<VV> Power Top Problems

Ken,
With the cables removed, will the motor run in both directions? If so, it
looks like some kind of bind, freeze or jam on the passenger side. When I
installed the power top on my Corsa, I discovered that a battery powered
drill motor was ideal for spinning the cables. Just do a little bit each
time and alternate sides. I'm thinking that your passenger side gearbox
might be rusted up. You can check that by marking the locations of things
and then removing the two BIG Phillips screws that connect the gearbox to
the top frame. Again try to run the gearbox with your drill motor. That
will pretty well tell you what you need to know. When I installed my power
top, I rebuilt both gearboxes and they run really smooth now. If you need
to go this far, let me know and I can send you some of the little ball
bearings that are required to redo the thrust bearings.

Subject: <VV> Power Top Problems

Hi Gang!

I just bought a 69 convertible with a power top. When I push the switch to
the
"down" position nothing happens, but when I push it to the "up" position it
moves slightly (the top is in the up position). I just want to lower the top
to get a few pictures. I disconnected the cables at the motor and it moves
some, but it still won't go down. It's especially tight on the passenger
side.
Any ideas on how I can get this top to work, either powered or manual?
Thanks
for the help!
