Garland, the circuit breaker in the headlight switch is overheating and
opening. Either you have a weak circuit breaker, a partial short circuit or too
much headlight wattage. If your headlights are nice and bright when they are
on, it's unlikely there is a short. The original high beam lights were 37 1/2
watts each. Most halogen high beams are 55 watts each. European lamps are
even higher. If you are running original tungsten-style lights, or standard
halogen lights, replacing the headlight switch will probably cure your problem. If
you are running even higher wattage bulbs such as H4s, you will have to have
a relay and direct battery wiring installed. Note that super-high wattage
bulbs, incombination with other loads such as the heater motor and wipers will
consume more current than the alternator can supply.
