  Had this same problem when I tried putting zenon bulbs in my vair. You are
drawing too much current more than likely and the switch is heating to fail
safe causing the flash. This is not a good thing. Could be as simple as a bad
headlamp. But you need to lessen the amperage load on the switch. I managed to
improve this condion by adding grounds under the dash (for some reaon the
plastic in the dash on a late model doesnt conduct electricity) and  engine
compartment (for some reason rubber mounts do not conduct well either)
   Actually some light switches seem to handle this conditin better than
others, but 40 year old wiring under this condition is a flirting with
disaster.
   The only other solution I can think of is painting your car red and
becoming a Fire Chief......this may come in handy in your case should a fire
break out in your vicinity....
