doc, I agree a hand impact may not be the ideal tool to use on an alternator
pulley due bearing loads, I do think it's better than a box end wrench and a
hammer.  the loads there will be far less controllable.  Personally, I use
an air impact on overtightened nuts, mine has pretty accurately adjustable
torque.  (an aircraft model). bob mc
