Surely, these both sound exactly the same in American English? I certainly 
can't tell the difference anyway!

On another note, I have always been amused at the American pronunciation of 
'Mazda' - I would have expected it to be 'Mairzda'.

But no - it's 'Marzda' - which surely implies that it should be spelt 
'Mozda'!

Cf. the slang word for mother, which is pronounced 'Marm' and spelt 'Mom'.
