<I am having a dickens of a time trying to get the choke adjusted on my 64 Spyder with a stock Carter YH carb.>

If the problem is the rich/lean setting, you can start by turning the choke cover toward rich (usually counterclockwise) until it just shuts and then about 1/4 turn more. If you are sure it is an original cover, you can start by aligning the mark on the cover with the center mark on the housing. If the problem is more extensive, follow the procedure to adjust the choke plate in the manual. It is important that you have about a 3/8" gap between the choke plate and throat in a warm condition, and that you have a .030" gap between the throttle plate and throttle body in a cold condition (carb has to be off the car for this adjustment). Drop me a private note if you need more details.
