<VV> Transporting a Corvair

Now speaking of insurance. I've checked with progressive (my insurance
agency) and they said they could cover the car for liability but it
would be less expensive to use an insurance company that specializes in
classic cars. Do any of you guys have an good insurance company that
will sell me a stated value policy, but will allow me to use the car as
a daily driver?

That is a healthy trip. Could be done in 2 days if all went well and
you
can sit for long periods, but 3 is more realistic.

You MIGHT want to change oil and filter twice along the way. If it were
me,
I think I'd ask the current owner to put about 200 gentle miles MORE on
the
car and do an oil (dead dinos) and filter change before I arrived to
pick it
up. Then - drive 500 to 600 miles (maybe the first day's drive) as you
would want to keep speed under 60 and vary speed every couple of miles
(probably in a range between 45 and 60).

Do an oil and filter change at the end of that first day. If no
consumption
problem noted, go to synthetic - otherwise stay with normal oil (engine
now
has about 900 to 1,000 miles) and complete the trip with no further
changes.
Change around the 2,000 (more) mark and go to 3,000 mile oil changes
after
that. By this point, there should not be ANY oil consumption and
synthetic
is the way to go.
