BEFORE dropping power train, confirm that clutch linkage allows clutch to
engage fully. This is the conclusive experiment. Disconnect the front end of
the rod that comes forward out of the bell housing. Now the linkage is
disconnected from the clutch. Put the transmission in gear. Turn starter.
Car moves with starter: clutch is OK - fix linkage. Engine starts: clutch is
bad - pull power train.
