<VV> Regreasing EM axle bearings

Guys,
I've looked through the manuals - now I need your help:
I want to grease some 63-64 bearings.  on some I can't access the dustcap because of another guard.  I presume this (inner to the car) guard is a press fit.  Is it easy to remove?  Is it necessary to replace?
2nd question - there is a circlip inside the bearing housing.  Should that be removed for regreasing?  What tool should I use?
