====Look in our archives and you'll find the recent threads==

Surely there is a bigger collective knowledge than just the recent threads, but...

=====Then we have the "Junkyard Primer" "69 Fingertip Facts" and who
knows what else is available from our Vendors====

...thanks for these sources. If I decide I'll actually take on the job of building a list, I'll look here, but I'm still intereted if this wheel's already been invented.

====those that require ONLY EXACT replacement parts.....so we don't put
all these
things together in a book====

 I think I did mention this would be a source for emergency, cheaper alternate parts, something more available but otherwise not a specific Corvair part.

====The knowledge....if you don't have means of finding out on your
own.....comes with TIME......reading VV.....joining a club / CORSA,  going to
meets....talking with others====

...been there, done that, since 1969, and haven't wondered about it until I posted the message. I don't remember exact part nos. printed 20+ years ago, and I don't expect anyone else to either. That is why the list. When you are broken down 500 miles from home, you can't go digging through the box in your closet for that article you clipped 15 years ago. And only once in my life was help right where I needed it when the car broke down.

=====Spark plug, fanbelts,Brake shoes, universial joints are
"generic"......look at the numbers...or measure the reach / threads..on a plug====

Don't know of any counterman who's going to go beyond looking to see what part is LISTED as fitting a 'Vair, let alone giving you the time it takes to whittle down spark plug thread and heat range specs and match them to something he might or might not have on the shelf. Same with any other part. They sell, you buy, hit the road. Next!

Your point about 'Vette column is well taken. My best guess, when my alternator siezed, was that the bearings and other internal parts from a late '60s GM unit would likely fit my '68 paid off in spades. It kept the problem from ruining a romantic weekend road trip with my fiance, where I would have lost a ton of money I already spent on the rest of the trip.

That is the point of the list. Now I know if it is the middle of a weekend night and I'm stuck in Nowhere, just north of Podunk, and I need a collapsible column for my car, I can jump the fence and take it off the 'Vette sitting in the junkyard next to the spot where I broke down. If a sparkplug fails and I don't have access to the old 44-46FF, it would be nice to know the gas station can sell me one intended for an '82 Nissan (if I'm even close, let alone dead on, I will buy a lottery ticket tonight) that JUST HAPPENS to be right for my car.

If anyone knows of such a consolidated list, please let me know. I am tempted to take on the task myself, but I don't want to waste the time if it already is out there somewhere. If I do It, I WILL want to know about all the 'Vette parts that fit Corvairs.

Periodically I'll hear about what an expensive and aggravating chore it is to find and replace rear hub bearings on an FC. Wouldn't it be nice to have an affordable alternative?
