RE: Transmission Problems:
I wrote about two weeks ago, about removing my transmission, on my 1963 Monza coupe 4 speed. I received replies that the transmission could be removed by itself, without removing the entire power train. I finally got some free time to work on it. I must be doing something wrong. I have disconnected the shift tube, the clutch cross shaft, the clutch pull rod, the speedometer cable, the front engine mounting bracket, and accelerator linkage, and the four (4) bolts the hold the transmission to the differential. But I cannot move the transmission back far enough. It is hitting that cross member that the front motor mounts bolt to. Where am I going wrong? Do I have to remove this cross member? It seems to be part of the rear suspension. Or do I have to remove the differential? Any help would be greatly appreciated .
