It seems that the author read the entry in Wikipedia on the Corvair 
(_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvair_ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvair) )  which 
mentions the V-8 modifications to Corvairs. He may have read this as a  
modification that Chevy did rather than something that was done outside of  GM.
 
All in all the Wikipedia looks like a pretty good document on our  car.
