Doug,
If you bypass the resister wire to the coil you must install a coil that will 
operate on 12 volts for the long haul.  Plenty are available from your local 
speed shop.  If you want to use the stock coil you will have to use the 
resister wire to the coil.  In any case the red wire must be connected to 12 volts.  
If you have the full 12 volts at the coil then the red wire can be connected 
there.  If you are using the resister wire you will have to run a connector 
wire around to the body plug (in the main engine harness) in the front left 
corner of the engine compartment and tap into the ignition wire on the body side 
of the harness just opposite the resister wire.  The black wire from the 
ignitor goes to the negative terminal of the coil.

I hope this does not add to the confusion.
